Yikes! I’m part of the problem here. I’ve been eating Walmart trail mix by the pound and the reason I love it is because (1) it’s cheap and (2) it’s full of almonds, my fav, rather than just peanuts.

I can do better. I’ve been planning to start making my own trail mix with ingredients from the bulk-dry department at the local organic grocer. Time to actually do that.

Also, almond milk is intensely overrated. Water is the real bees knees.

I’m one who definitely loves almond milk over the others! But today I went to the store and bought coconut milk. I like oat milk but we don’t have the good brand locally. I hope this info about the bees/almond milk goes viral and a company creates a Bee Friendly almond milk. Until then, I’m off almond milk. Are you definitely in?

Yup! Just went to the grocery store yesterday and skipped the almond milk.

United we stand! And I actually like Califia Farms unsweetened coconut milk. YAY! Please don’t tell me there is something damaging with coconuts!

Ha! Also the packaging! I try to remind myself that ethical decision making is a practice not an achievement. There are no “final answers” here. Although one really big idea I’m interested in: grow your own food. I think that’s about as close to a final answer as it gets.

OMG, WTF!!! I completely overlooked that - hilarious. I was the nut just looking at the nut content! Well, the really funny thing is that I loved the packaging because of its shape and storage function! Well, I checked and it’s plastic and they ask to recycle. The upside, no PBA’s, although the latest is that there are many more types of BPA’s now. But you are right, it’s a practice. I’ll keep my eyes open for other options. I hope not to go the way of Urophagia!!!

Wow, I feel this is a very important article to read. I knew that the honey bees were in decline because of climate change but this is another disturbing piece to the puzzle. I love almond milk but will stop buying it unless it contains the “Bee Better” label. I can’t believe Roundup is still on the market!

Me neither. Roundup bums me out so much. Especially because the name itself is so close to “Readup.” Not cool.

agh, really makes you think twice about almond milk. Also good in this vein is the book Beekeepers Lament. Interesting look at the diseases and troubles plaguing bees and beekeepers, with the added joy of following a plucky, iconoclast of a commercial beekeeper.

Thanks for finding and posting this Alexa. It’s so encouraging that there is a solution out there. If enough people stop buying almonds and almond milk, perhaps it will encourage change within the industry. Look what happened when enough consumers started to demand organic foods and products. I love that I can now find them in ordinary supermarkets and drug stores.
