Personally I think the article could have used more examples of societies that have collapsed due to an overpopulation of elites. A few are mentioned in the article, but not enough to convince me.
Agreed more evidence would have been helpful. I'd be interested to know what other outcomes are considered a collapse...just civil war? Does the Arab Spring count? Current situation in HK? However, if the data goes back 10,000 years, it sounds fairly holistic and may not be an oversimplification.
