A few weeks back I was discussing board games with my sister in law, and she told me about this wonderful new game she and my brother has been playing, named Wingspan. She told me how much fun it was to play, but what she said really sets it apart from other games are the quality of the artwork and components. It's clear the publisher didn't cut any corners during design or production. (Just look at the images in this article; the game looks stunning!) It is a tad more expensive than most competing games, but maybe there's a lesson there for publishers; customers are willing to pay extra for better quality.
I haven't had the pleasure of playing the physical version yet, but a few months before the mentioned talk, a friend talked me into buying the digital version on Steam, and I fell in love with it. The digital version is also pure excellence (well, the AI could still use some work); the beautiful artwork, gentle music, and sweet chirps and caws of your birds really setting the mood. And the mentioned engine building is very solid, even more so for such an accessible game.
Can’t thank you enough for posting this - so inspiring! I think Wingspan is a must purchase - one that will give more than its cost.
Excellent read! Thanks for sharing. Had not heard of this one until this read.
Much more than a 10, such as Elizabeth Hargrave herself. This woman is so inspiring I’m awe-struck. Wingspan is the perfect micro of the macro I would LOVE to see happen within the reimagining of our planet post Covid - cooperation, community, diversity, creativity, conservation, beauty - a place where everyone wins. Thank you Readup, where else would I find an article like this? So uplifting at a time of dire loss, fear and anxiety. We need more Hargraves.
Billiam, we now know what your birthday present is in 2022 😘🎂
