Sinead O’Conner was iconic, an original “voice”. I saw that episode of SNL and it was truly shocking. I remember feeling afraid for her - all the anger and hate equally upending. I had my own proof of the Catholic Church’s hypocrisy, but back then you would get in trouble if you told your parents. The Pope, and priests, were literally looked upon as representatives of God. They were infallible. The Church had their flock of sheep right where they wanted them - afraid and disempowered. How many innocent children were robbed of their childhoods - their foundations for a healthy, thriving life? What amount of money could compensate for that?
