      If everyone in our social circles thinks as we do, we become more rigid in our thinking, and less likely to change our beliefs on the basis of new information. In fact, the more people listen to people who share their views, research shows the more polarized their views become.

        Amen to that. I've been so guilty of this at times. It hit me that I wasn't thinking about things when I made an 'obvious' statement and a friend asked me a few simple questions that I just hadn't considered. I then realized this friend moved in different circles. When something is obvious to me, but not to others - I try to step back and examine it.
