Food mold must not be too toxic, at least most of the time, and I base this on my ex-in laws. They left food, including meat, out of the refrigerator for days, if it got fuzzy, they just scraped it off and ate it. I refused to eat in their house, which led to some awkward situations, but their concept of food safety was severely lacking.
