On a scale one to ten, how much do you agree with this opinion piece?

5/10? I mostly don't agree. There are too many areas in life where gender identity shouldn't matter, but where it still makes a difference: marriage, job opportunities, ...

If there is a natal male who wants to adhere to the social construct of a female, and and a queer person who finds that particular combination attractive; then I don't think anyone should judge how they self-identify.

Then again, there are areas where biological reality and appearance matters. Like changing rooms separated based on sex, or sports tournaments. I'm reminded of J.K. Rowling's response to the accusations of her being transphobic, a quote:

So I want trans women to be safe. At the same time, I do not want to make natal girls and women less safe. When you throw open the doors of bathrooms and changing rooms to any man who believes or feels he’s a woman – and, as I’ve said, gender confirmation certificates may now be granted without any need for surgery or hormones – then you open the door to any and all men who wish to come inside. That is the simple truth.

I don't think keeping the traditional gender role status-quo there is necessarily the solution. But these situations require more careful discussion involving people's biological appearance. This is one surface where I'd agree with the writer.
