I found this article fascinating. I knew nothing of this writer and was pulled along effortlessly. I do remember seeing the movie Crash, years ago, and feeling disturbed. Ballard’s autobiography, Empire of the Sun, sounds like a page turner. Concrete Island, another of his works, sounds like one of those recurring nightmares that one can’t escape. Some really worthy reads here.
We have become bored with what we have inherited, to which, for lack of talent, we have contributed so humiliatingly little. Ballard understands why educated people, haunted by the pointlessness of their lives, feel the need to protest.
