EXCELLENT!!! I completely agree with this article - enough about digital detox! To finally have positive options in the tech field is a much more powerful way to make a meaningful shift in one’s habits. Readup has been such an important part of my husband’s and my life. Each morning we make coffee, grab our iPads and scroll the App to see what new world is going to open to us. It promotes intelligent conversations in a world that tends to parrot Fox News and all it’s toxic fearfulness.

Seriously! Couldn't agree more. This is the passage that had me fist-pumping:

We don’t need to hear about more doomsday AI scenarios, widespread data breaches or dopamine addictions. We need an inspiring North Star to guide us in the right direction in our personal and professional lives. Where’s the hope? Optimistic technologies need to go mainstream, motivating us all to change our habits, vote with our attention, and transform the internet. If you’re wondering what I mean by ‘optimistic technology’, then boy, is this article for you! There actually is a lot of hopeful tech out there.

I'm ready to be done with "humane tech." I love these new, Jay-coined updates: "optimistic tech" and "hopeful tech." Readup, of course, is reading tech (versus ad tech), but we're also bicycle tech, a la Steve Jobs's "technology can be a bicycle for the mind."

So much inspiring stuff in here. It's neck and neck for AOTD tomorrow! ;)

This is an amazing testimonial for Readup:

I’ll admit, the first time I saw a ReadUp post described as a “29 min read”, I was totally scared off. But after I came back and actually read it, it dawned on me: this app solves a real problem.

This is an encouraging find Bill! So is Attention Activist the blog?

Yup! Jay is the author and Attention Activist is his blog!

Jay and I first met about a year ago at a digital humane tech gathering. He's excellent. Definitely on Team Human. Definitely knows what time it is. I'm stoked that his writing is resonating with readers here! ;)

" You may also know about Apple’s Screen Time and Google’s Digital Wellbeing tools which do the same thing for smartphone use (fyi: these tech giants shamelessly appropriated indie tech like Checky, Moment, Siempo, and others)."

Yep. I remember the Apple-Siempo battle well. I’ve met Andrew Dunn, founder, in person.

What ended up happening with Moment? The guy who started Moment is legit the real deal. He made Pinterest what it is. I heard about him on Acquired podcast.

Great article, and Readup was the first mentioned!

I'm going to try some of these, perhaps Kialo to start with.
