An extension to today's AOTD: https://readup.com/read/cool-tools/1000-true-fans

“In the offline world, people are accustomed to hiring experts across verticals (think interior designers, organizational consultants, public speaking coaches, executive coaches, and SAT tutors) and are willing to pay premium prices for the promise of measurable improvement and results. Now that mindset is filtering into our digital lives, as well.”

Reading into these emerging opportunities with the web, and specializing our focus on a realm that draws only 100 individuals whom are 'super fans' sounds like an ideal world.

It is strange how at a corporate level there is such a backlash on trying to specialize so much, and yet.. on an independent level it seems as though specializing is the best thing one can do.

It has me very curious of what the web will look like, and what the informational conglomerates (social media platforms) look like when we all pursue a smaller, specialized audience. Will a networked colonialism begin to emerge? Has this already occurred?

It is fascinating in terms of what the concept of '100 fans' means for commerce, community, and the future of education.

“New paid creator platforms are less about mere entertainment or delight, and more about providing a full solution for the user’s desired outcome, including curriculum, accountability, and community.”

Rather than viewing one’s fans as a uniform group, the 100 True Fans model calls on creators to distinguish between various subsegments based on affinity and willingness to pay. The relationship super-fans have with creators is different from regular fans: they become disciples, protégés, co-learners, and co-creators. As such, they require a whole new set of tools and platforms.
