I've tried, but I've been unable to find any statistics that prove oil demand is on a downward path. If I'm reading this IEA report correctly, they consider demand on an upward path still.
Politicians in general don't seem very good at fact-checking their own beliefs and opinions.
In any case, I voted earlier today, and it will be interesting to watch the results, even if I'm not particularly excited for either coalition winning.
