5 stars here. Thoroughly enjoyed and deeply appreciate this one.

Extremely impressed with this film. Will Smith’s portrayal is exceptional and offers a perfect balance of edgy ego-walking whilst clearly doing everything he can to keep his family on track built upon love and wanting better for them than he experienced as a young man in Louisiana.

The love expressed from both parents with valid issues illuminating powerfully is palpable; deeply moving. Brandi is Richard’s grounding rod. Brandi has moments where she stands up for her girls and their autonomy when he is making decisions out of love discipline yet carrying it a bit too far thus skirting the line of selfishness and leading to the question: “is it becoming more about him?”

Additionally, there is a pivotal moment that, if true-to-life, unveils a Very Real Moment of Guardian Angels looking out for the fam and their future. If the scene had transpired differently the whole dynamic and trajectory could’ve been put in jeopardy and greater turmoil.

Too early to tell if WS will have Acting Award competition. He undoubtedly deserves nominations. One of my favorite recent film experiences. Possibly my #1, atm.
