This is fascinating, "History of Violence" was in a stack of celebrated books by queer authors I picked up last year and one of the few I have yet to crack open. This is a heart-wrenching piece, rather melancholy but v eye-opening

What impresses me is that Louis and his two cohorts are activists as well as writers who have done well financially from their writing.

“There is undoubtedly nothing more efficient for understanding how the social world works than, quite simply, to look at who dies before whom,” Louis posted on Twitter. “We forget it too often: Politics is a question of life and death.” When will we all see that in the US?

Intelligent, thoughtful writing about an intelligent, thoughtful person. I hadn’t even heard of Edouard Louis and I’m very happy he’s on my radar now.

This took me a full hour to read, but it’s an excellent, high-level review of the French literary and political scenes. If (like me) you don’t know Jack about France, this is a great place to start.

I've read JD Vance's Hillbilly Elegy and also suggest it.

Yup. It’s been on my radar forever, I need to read it.
