Anyone close to me can attest to the fact that I've been railing against the ridiculous idea of fully autonomous vehicles for years. I find it so disturbing just how many people thought, and still think, that building such a car is possible or even "just around the corner."

In my opinion it points to a widespread radical misunderstanding of what computers are capable of and highlights how susceptible the public is to being sold a lie under the guise of "artificial intelligence" by nefarious (or delusional) actors.

This is a huge danger. There are already plenty of examples of companies pushing similar bullshit tech into our criminal justice and education systems. It is absolutely crucial to realize that even when AI systems work properly they can nevertheless internalize extant problems such as human biases and be both totally unaccountable and unauditable.

I can attest to the fact that Jeff has, in fact, been saying this for years! ;P

Obviously. Self-driving features will keep creeping in, but robocars won’t be a thing in my lifetime, at least to the extent that all the crazies were pitching in the last few years.

Regardless, I don’t even want anything digital in my dash. I love my fully analog Ford F-250.

Let’s focus more on fuel efficiency and battery storage. AV has been fake news from the beginning.
