I’m curious about the monetisation strategy behind this

        Help page:

If I send money, what percentage will the person receive?

Payments are sent via third-party payment services. Twitter will not receive any portion of these payments, but the third-party payment services may charge fees.

I assume that rules out too that they get a commission of some kind. I did notice that the Cash payment app opens in the built-in browser. So maybe this at least helps users stay on Twitter while tipping, so they see more ads...

Yeah, I noticed that too. Ads and user behaviour data was my guess. And maybe it’s a “let’s enter the market with free payments and figure out a commission model later” kind of approach. Not uncommon with big tech who doesn’t need the cashflow immediately.

This group includes creators, journalists, experts, and nonprofits.

Also curious how (much) people will use this. And how the creators will request the tips (follow-up tweet: “if you liked this, tip me in my profile”?).
