I agree with your four fundamentals, Bill. And I think most people believe the wall is a "stunt" so he has a chance of re election. Most people in the know believe we need better enforcement at the points of entry and a clear path to citizenship. The wall is virtually impossible is build and useless. His lack of experience and inability to negotiate on this shutdown will be his downfall. People are getting pissed. I like the idea of getting more "yoga- like", we're all in this together and "one human family", so let's start acting like one. .

Interesting article. About time one of these pieces found some Trump voters who don’t reflexively defend him.

How is this going to end?? It’s interesting to read how everyday people are thinking and feeling about all of this, but also not too surprising. Everyone’s going to be bruised after something like this.

Why isn’t Congress using this as an opportunity to pass monumental immigration reform? (Or are they?)

Primarily because Mitch McConnell continues to cover for Trump. He won’t let anything come to a vote unless Trump endorses it in advance because it would be embarrassing to veto? It doesn’t make sense, but nothing does.

Seriously. I feel like I’m going crazy, because in my conversations on this with people from all across the political spectrum, literally everyone fully agrees on the fundamentals:

            (1) We need need better laws (2) We need to do a better job of enforcing the laws (3) Non US citizens shouldn’t have the same rights as citizens (4) All humans should be treated humanely.

Here’s the season finale: an Ivanka/Pelosi “press conference” on the border but where they just hang around with non-rich, non-white women and families and everyone gets to learn something about everyone and love and kindness and fairness reign supreme.
