My kids are all zoomers and millennials, and they just don't have the opportunities I did when I was their age.

I was trying to explain this to my father-in-law the other day. Yes I make good money -now, but I was unemployed or underemployed for years. Those years created debts or deferred paying off debts (student loans). In his mind I make enough to buy a house etc. But I am hesitant to do so until I've paid off a chunk of debt and am more sure about my current situation. He's changed jobs three times in his career, and changed career paths once (from IT coding to IT management). I've changed jobs every year to eighteen months (being unemployed various times) and switched career paths four times - in a dozen years. Not because I wanted to, but because I took the next available, or only available, opportunity. From construction to military to education to IT. Let's hope IT lasts.
