      This is a case of polarization not serving anyone (in my opinion). Trump said schools should open - he said a lot of terrible and dumb things too, but even a stuck weathervane occasionally gets the wind right. Because Trump said it was good, the elected school boards knew it was bad.

      I think what really got parents worried were new guidelines and suggestions that maybe they wouldn't open this fall or would require heavy masking etc. At some point enough is enough. It's possible for the virus to be a real threat and for precautions to be needed, and to open schools and serve these kids. Last year was a big blackhole in educational gains.

      I am watching this debate from the position of someone who doesn’t have kids and have the privilege therefore to call it “fascinating” which from a political perspective it maybe is. The in school versus virtual debate has struck up a very interesting group of political “orphans” many of which were historically progressive but now feel betrayed and dismayed by their own party. Will be interesting to see what shakes out here.
