      Many quotable lines! I like the approach of Tumblr. And it’s good to read there is a (growing!) audience for a simpler, less manipulative social media environment.

      What makes Tumblr obsolete, for the moment, are the same things that lend it an enduring appeal. The fact that it maintains a following should remind us that we use social-media services by choice; no platform or feature is an inevitability.

      I wouldn't say the periphery of the internet is unimportant. The periphery is able to diverge from the mainstream. This renders it very important, as subcultures can eventually become the next (better?) mainstream.
