"A friend just said to me 'Are we supposed to be working during the coup?' and honestly it was the most American thing I've ever heard."

It feels ever increasingly correct as a statement of the world we're in I think.

This is a great piece. In addition to all the snippets already pulled from the comments, this line pulled at me:

we generate more information than we have at any point in history, and yet we move further and further from producing meaning.

And we live in an information economy. Yikes.

today there's a lot of debate. was it a coup, or wasn't it? and i think the reality of our current state is that the answer now, and always, is: both.

Okay, so this is the first (and only) thing I’ve read about the whole coup-thing that happened earlier in the week (except for something that Pence wrote that, indeed, Biden won) and, frankly, overall I feel like I ended up with the right info and the right amount of information.

Note: In that sentence, I considered using the terms “intel” and “intelligence” instead of “info” and “information.” That felt like a good impulse. Generally speaking, I don’t know if I even want “information” anymore; it’s all over the place and means very little. I want intelligence, information that’s been processed and synthesized by humans.

Such an accurate read right now for what live is like in America.

are we supposed to be behaving as if we are living through a series of existential threats? or are we supposed to be behaving as if everything is mostly normal? we're caught between disjointed and incompatible realities—the panicked reality of what's happening in the media and the often mundane reality of our everyday lives.

This is what is the strangest part about right now... this sense of disillusion as to what is the appropriate mindset when approaching the problems that we are clearly in the midst of.

On the surface, things locally seem quite normal despite the WFH (work-from-home) movement, which largely a lot of us are accustomed to now. Sure, there is a lot of "chaos" on the side of politics in D.C.. and it is a saddening thing that I have almost come to expect as a "redemptive measure" as a result of an election I did not vote on.

As time progresses, there is tons of questioning and thought being put into what is expected to be a "new normal" and it is quite hard to even tell what is the right answer. As clearly, there are two very explicit sides.. both yelling their claims and now not even conversing on the same platforms...

There has to be more accountability for social media. As frankly, the power seems to be switching from gov to Big Tech... as we seemingly have been warned and learning of the past 4 years anyway.

Weird times. Very pressing piece. Cannot recommend it enough.

A really thoughtful analysis of where we are right now as a body politic.

amazing. really captured a lot of what i've been feeling and framed more for consideration; the idea of dislocation and virtual vs real economies or political spheres really resonates.
