I had a college professor tell me I should read poetry. I didn't think much of her suggestion at the time but I'm so glad I started that practice.

I'm starting to realize I could write a book of all the things people have told me that I didn't think much of that turned out to be totally right or awesome.

I’m in awe of poetry. The form is so challenging - every word is essential. And that is what appeals to me. I love words. Images and feelings crafted by an unexpected combination of the perfect words are astonishing. Breathtaking.

Well said. "Breathtaking" is exactly right. And I think the author did a great job of explaining the power of poetry via the mind-body connection it creates. At least that's what I'm still thinking about a day after reading this one — how poetry physically manifests within us. So cool.

I so agree Bill. It made me go and get some of my poetry books. And it IS visceral!
