This has always been a HUGE problem at concerts, sporting events and even restaurants. I can’t begin to count the number of times I snuck into the men’s bathroom because of the ridiculously long lines for the women. And it never is a good experience because there also seems to be an endemic lack of aim in men’s bathrooms - urine all over the floor! Disgusting, to say the least. I like having separate bathrooms for that reason but good arguments for gender neutral bathrooms, Alzheimer patients and father’s with young daughters. If we all share the bathrooms, then I would love to have extra cleaning people on hand. And they should get paid really well for their service. With additional tipping. Bathrooms say so much about a place - the level of care and consideration the establishment has for their customers.

On Saturday evening I ate dinner in a rather fancy hotel restaurant. The bathrooms were in the hotel lobby, right next to the concert hall, where a band was playing and the crowd was drinking and having fun. There was pee all over the bathroom floor; completely impossible to use the toilet without standing in it.
I have a solution, but it's probably not a good solution: Build the bathroom ceilings lower! If it's impossible to stand in the toilet stall, we all have to sit down to pee, men and women alike. It's pretty hard to miss the target while sitting down.
Hah, a creative way of thinking about it! But that comes with its own risks of hitting your head. Maybe use foam ceilings? 🤡
I hope that most men who like peeing standing prefer to do so in urinals. Hence, I think one solution is to have many gender-neutral stalls, with a clearly separated section of male urinals. That diverts many men from the stalls and ensures more access for women. Might even be combined with the low ceilings!
I’m loving this discussion! I asked my husband if he prefers urinals and he said no, they smell and there’s still urine all over the floor!!! Let’s not forget, he says, it’s also a large, ugly fixture. The unfortunate times I have had to run into a man’s bathroom, I’ve noticed odor eliminating pads inside the urinals and they still really smell - but now like vanilla piss! Oh well, if this is my biggest complaint, I’m truly a fortunate woman! Thanks for the fun!
Oh yeah, that's worth noting too; urinals don't really solve the pee-on-the-floor problem, it just makes it a males only problem.
In my primary school, the boys' bathroom had an entire room which was all just a single big urinal. The walls were all urinal, and the floor was just a grating above the urinal. So you could stand anywhere in the room, pee in any direction, and not be able to miss the urinal. It was really quite fascinating, and I've never seen anything like it anywhere else.
So there's our solution; a walk-in urinal and low foam ceilings in the toilet stalls.

Awesome but unfortunately impractical. The question is, why are men so resistant to sitting? I think it’s just habit and resistance to change. I just read this to my husband and he agrees. But he still won’t change!
