Yessss, this is such a smart take. And I love what she points out about Lois Frankel's book "Nice Girls Dont Get The Corner Office"...I couldn't even finish that mess when I tried.

She made a really good point about Andreeson's "Time To Build" article that is going around Readup right now that I think is worth simmering on.

Even Andreessen, whose viral article makes a lot of good points, conveniently leaves out how the “building” he’s advocating for requires you to be part of that single-unattached-male variety so you can get that hockey-stick-growth that gets funded.

I love YC and so much of what it stands for, but the conditions of those 6-weeks prior to demo day are fucking stupid sexist. If you want a family and a startup, you need to have a wife or you need to forgo children. Don’t @ me bro if you’re thinking what I know you’re thinking because: WORK HARDER is not the answer. It’s never been the answer.

Bingo. I like that she points out that it is true for both sexes. That culture just doesn't work for the vast majority of people. Much like the current gender norms aren't working for the vast majority of people -see all the wives doing an unequal share of the domestic work.

Some really excellent points. I always found the first wave of feminism, my era, disturbing for the reasons given - women behaving like men to get ahead. It totally devalued women. This quote from Anne Marie Slaughter: “I suggest that real equality, full equality, does not just mean valuing women on male terms. It means creating a much wider range of equally respected choices for women and for men. And to get there, we have to change our workplace, our policies, and our culture.” This Corona Virus is forcing this change - wiping the slate clean. Picasso said all creation begins with destruction.

These are really good points. There is the good about a traditional idea of man and womanhood, but there is also much that needs to be updated -especially the lack of choice and flexibility in those models. I don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water, I do want a better system for my own children.
