Call the planet Father Earth and see what changes - brilliant! I LOVED this interview. The part about neuroscience suggesting that women’s voices may be processed by men in the same area of the brain that processes background music and noise - yes, this resonates with me. I have this very visceral bodily reaction when I read articles like this. A deep anger about the patriarchal system and the disregard that women have been subjected to. I never have labeled myself a feminist but I do feel it is my responsibility to show up, be my very best self, act and respond from a place of empowerment, a place of knowing who I am, what I am worth and giving 100%. I don’t look for approval because I approve of myself. My anger works to move me forward, not to dwell in the past and allow this disparity to continue. I feel very hopeful and encouraged and so much of that has to do with the #MeToo Movement. The fact that very powerful men were taken down IS a big deal. It means that there is power in numbers, in voices that finally are not afraid, are standing up and being heard.

Pegeen, I, too, was struck about the part of the interview that said men may process women’s voices in the same part of their brain as background noise! WOW! From my own daughter and my female counseling clients, I see how incredibly male-dominated and unjust the judicial system is to women. But unfortunately, some female judges are no better. It’s how the laws are written to protect power and influence.

Outstanding article. The analogy of how we treat women and Mother Earth are so spot on. I’ve read somewhere that nations that have women leaders have fewer wars and less violence. So what are we waiting for America? Thank you Readup, again, for a fabulous article

How did it confuse you? I’m so interested in knowing more. I got so much from this piece! It seemed so true “One of the things that I’ve begun to think lately is, capitalism itself predicated on all of the life-giving/caregiving work being completely unpaid, being on the backs of women? And if it is, what does that say about the sustainability of capitalism?” so much of what women traditionally do and value is devalued and I think this May be a core reason for our threatened demise as a planet and species.
