Going into this I had no idea this is the source material for Bad Education (As mentioned A++ HBO film). Great re-visiting this rather shocking idiosyncratically complex Based on a True Story 10 read.

Gotta love a scandal, especially if it’s the superintendent of the 6th rated public school system in the country. Happened long ago, 2002, but reminds one that things are not always what they appear to be. Fascinating read.

There is a great HBO film about this. Hugh Jackman plays the lead. There is a scene I absolutely loved where the Superintendent breaks down. He is helping a kid work on pronunciation while all the scandal is unfolding around him and this mom is insisting her son be put into a gifted class. He takes the time to meet with them and help the kid and the mom is still incensed that he isn't doing more. He launches into a tirade about all that is expected of educators and administrators and that they sometimes aren't allowed to be human.

It really struck me. I used to be a principal and the moment summed up my experience perfectly.

Not that any of that excuses what he did!

Yes! Great scene in an outstanding HBO film! Another top-notch role Jackman home runs in a stellar career. Allison Janney is her typical top shelf acting caliber, as well.

The movie sounds interesting, Jackman a good actor. I’m sure it resonated with you having been a principal. That had to be a rough job. The guy in the article sounded like he was a narcissist and maybe a sociopath. I honestly could never lie like he did - just don’t have that “it” factor that makes one capable of such hurtful behavior. What nerve that guy had - really incredible. I am always fascinated by liars. And spies - another profession that involves top notch deception. I was riveted by the drama series called Turn: Washington Spies. It’s about the Revolutionary War era spies. They were ordinary people who volunteered to help Washington. It was hair raising. Their courage was extraordinary.
