This is great, lots to think about here! I feel like the lean mindset is applicable at the personal level, too. So many people are moving into small apartments in large cities but almost nothing is actually manufactured nearby and it's unfeasible to keep a large stock of anything on hand due to limited space. I definitely like having a bigger buffer.

Really interesting. My dad was major in Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing, this is an interesting criticism of how these systems run in a crisis.
