I’m surprised that there aren’t more writers who play various musical instruments. L’Engle was a pianist but no string or horn instruments among the writers.

I agree that hobbies are a fun way to “redeem your free time and keep your creative juices flowing”. Playing in my art studio keeps the child me alive - the joy and magic of surprise and discovery flowing. It’s where I’m most aware of being in the present moment.
