As always, the personal parts are more interesting than the political. Parts of this are really charming.
As a grandfather of three under the age of seven, I craft weekly letters to each of them from their far away loving pen pal. It warms my heart knowing that as emergent readers, each loves going to the mailbox, full of anticipation about the story or greeting their penpal might be sending. Many miles away, in their grandpa’s mind’s eye, I can see them ripping the envelopes open and quietly enjoying a special pice from their loving penpal. Hopefully they too will carry on this practice.
i have been sending postcards to this guy Dick, an 85 year old artist (street painter) i met in Key West. it makes our phone calls so much richer. i hope to have a proper address soon so people can mail me stuff back.
