This was a powerful glimpse into the psychological effects of our society’s fat shaming. People’s bodies and comfort shouldn’t be up for debate. Weight is not a signifier of health. I am not overweight but I do not diet or exercise. I have friends with way healthier and more active lifestyles who are heavier than me who struggle with shame and discomfort due to the stigma of their bodies. I was reminded by one of them that even hearing “positive” comments on their body can be harmful as often when they’ve been their thinnest it was due to depression and an unhealthy time in their life, and regardless of what is going on it’s a reminder that everyone is thinking of your body all the time, a permeating reality that I think this author portrayed very well.
The ending was super cute
