Crazy times call for meanwhile declarations such as this, love the variety of thinkers who signed off on this!

lolol. Really!?! I'm going to read some of the other stuff you just posted before replying here. I saw and started and already saw some great critiques.

But doesn't this deserve a 10 just because of the quality of names on the list!? I spent so much time looking it over. Truly incredible humans/thinkers/writers!!

I mean, being a good writer or a good thinker doesn't make one an expert on all of these issues. Some people have already retracted their support, some people who signed say they have been mislead about the content of the letter, and then there's the fact that many people have been honking this horn for a decade now and it is no more urgent now than it is then. I was writing op-eds about these same issues when I was a college journalist in 2008. This is a overly self-important, overly self-centering, when there are much more serious issues facing our society. But even if it wasn't, the letter itself is weak in its proposition, lacking in a solid basis for its argument, and poorly grounded in reality. The presence of the signatories does not make it a good work.

This argument comes and goes in cycles and the signatories here have plenty of platforms to publish them and amplify them of which Harper's is the least. The whole setting and setup itself counters their argument. I find the whole thing just grossly self-interested on their part. I am unimpressed with it and I def don't find it to be particularly urgent considering the world around us right now.

And yeah, you can check out my latest reads for some good reasoning about why I feel that way.
