Readup doesn't yet have an Android app, but I've found this workaround.

You'll need to install Firefox Nightly, create a Firefox account (if you don't have one already), then jump through a few hoops as described in this article. But it works! Really well, in fact. The user experience is basically identical to desktop.

      1. Update (7/21/2021):

To show the front page of Readup, you'll have to open the menu and toggle "desktop version". It's a bit squinty, but with some zooming and panning, it's usable. Let me know if you know of a good text wrap add-on.

Wow, this is very cool! I'm happy to hear that the extension actually works on a mobile browser.

It's funny timing since we're in the middle of finally building an Android app (ETA end of September!) and also changing the extension behavior to launch the Readup desktop app instead of reading in the browser (already live on macOS and Safari, coming to Windows and Chrome/Firefox/Edge next week).

To show the front page of Readup, you'll have to open the menu and toggle "desktop version".

If you don't want to squint you can try navigating to https://readup.com/?clientType=App instead. Some functionality will be limited since the web app will be expecting to communicate with the iOS app, but you should be able to log in with email, view everything and also long-press and open articles in new tabs to then activate the extension.

PS: You wouldn't happen to be a Linux user on desktop, would you? We're building the Windows app using Electron and wondering if we have any readers that we should build a Linux version for.

Yeah, I saw the email. Looking forward to trying out the Android app. :-)

          Thanks for the tip!

I am indeed! There probably aren't a lot of us (yet), but hopefully it won't be too much work porting an Electron app to Linux.

Yup I think it should be fairly easy. The only potentially tricky bit is getting the extension native messaging working with the Readup GUI app using a CLI app as the intermediary. I think it'll be much easier to get that working on Linux than it was on macOS or Windows though.

Which distro are you using? I'll get a VM set up to start doing some testing!

Yeah, I don't even know what that means. :-p I don't have much experience developing desktop applications.

Neat! I use MX Linux, which is based on Debian.

Epic find! I tried to do this before when add-ons were an unrestricted part of the old Firefox for Android, but then it didn’t work. I guess the add-on APIs have become more equal now in the new mobile version.

Anyone willing to try this too, for as long as it works, without creating the collection; 13997605 is my user ID and Readup-nightly the collection name.
