This is great. Most arguments in the public space are ones on which reasonable people can disagree. If I think someone is 'stupid' or 'evil' for holding an opinion that is shared by some 40% of the public, the odds are that I don't know the other side well enough. Understanding it might not change my opinion, but it will probably change my opinion of those who hold the contrary view.
