OMG THIS STORY. Everyone needs to read this, it's...everything you think but with a poodle. And absurd. And heartbreaking when you think about it for a while.
100%. "I laughed and I cried -- it was better than Cats." Except no, this story is far, far worse than Cats can ever be. It's just so wrong. So wrong. And yet this is where we live.
Very powerful story. It really does give a glimpse—to a white person never treated that way— into how a black person would feel in that circumstance. Excellent writing—my heart was racing too. If stopped at night, I’d also think, What if they’re not the real police.
There is something deeply wrong with us as a country if people can’t drive on our roads without being harassed. The stupidity and arrogance of these officers is beyond belief. I’m going to look into some of the books mentioned. Let’s pray that it’s changing and we can be the change.
I’ve heard so many stories like this that I only have anger when I see police, gun in holster trying to intimidate....I can’t even imagine what it’s like to be black and feel that anger and also fear that the police lwant nothing more than to have a chance to cuff you or even shoot you. In England they don’t carry guns. Police here are not fit to carry them. Defund them. In Massachusetts the Republican governor wants to give them a 5 k bonus for taking a class in racism. Sorry, I know there are some decent ones out there.
I get really nervous when a cop pulls me over. I can feel the shift of power and I hate it. This simple little story made me feel that powerlessness all over again. My heart was racing just reading it. Of course I have heard/read about racial profiling, but this made me feel it by imaging how much worse a person of color’s fear must be. The whole unbuckling of the holster was chilling.

Wow you weren't kidding!

This is crazy on so many levels. Especially the fact that the cops had to lie to cover up the fact that they are racially targeting vehicles

A class in racism should be mandatory, no bonuses. I agree we have to cut their budget.
Enough us enough!
