I was very influenced by Julia Cameron’s The Artist Way and also Natalie Goldberg’s Writing Down The Bones. Then recently I read The Magic by Rhonda Byrne. This is an exceptional book that takes you through a 28 day gratitude practice. This is a much deeper dive than the usual and I found it transformative. So now I keep a gratitude journal and the magic continues.
But it’s only magical if it becomes a practice, just like any meditative tool.
LOVE this! Yes, you can use an inverted metal tea spoon.! Do it first thing in the am before anything else. And then put that nasty spoon in the dishwasher!
I did the morning pages for a decade (my forties) I read them later and it was pure “gunk”for a decade. I do believe they worked .. it was definitely a creative time .. it was also before social media and technology distractions.
Yay! Author in the comments! I love it! (Thanks for sharing, Kelly!)
I’m a huge fan of morning pages. (I did 6[ish] weeks of The Artists Way a few years ago. Still kinda bummed at myself for not finishing.) I find it so much easier to get the words flowing if I’ve had juicy dreams. If not, I kinda just want coffee and to poke around with random distractions or reading. The morning pages are like yoga or running. It might be hard to get on the mat or trail, but I never regret it once it’s under way. It’s always just getting the ball rolling that’s hard.

Yup. You hit on the greats. One more to add to the list: Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott.
Yes, I have that one too!
Oddly, what I got out of this article- I think I should begin tongue scraping.
