Fascinating to learn of the birth of Techno in Detroit. 1981 the start of it all.

In Detroit, 1981 was an exciting time of change and evolution musically. The disco scene had morphed into New Wave/progressive, and it was also the year techno emerged.

Amazing to hear of the innovations while being on the radio of all places... kinda bums me out I was unable to really relish in the true glories of the radio age, as we are now fully immersed into the days of streaming.

Called MFA for short, the Midnight Funk Association came complete with a special member’s card for devoted fans. “In the metro Detroit area, there are thousands… and more about to join now,” Mojo would croon at the beginning of the segment. “Will the members of the Midnight Funk Association please rise?”

I think creating something tangible such as a "members card" makes the experience of being a part of a clique of like-minded individuals much more meaningful. Especially as it relates to now, building a "following" online.

This is why diving into the archives of the way Dance Music/Techno spread in the city of Detroit is an absolute enjoyable learning experience.

What innovations did they have back in the day, that we could then repurpose to fit the present times? This is what has me absolutely curious, and why I will continue going down this rabbithole.
