I come from a neighborhood of tree lined streets- Oaks and Maples. All the kids in the neighborhood climbed trees - it was a very normal pastime. We also hung thick ropes from limbs that hung over the Delaware river, creating the traditional Tarzan swing. I consider trees my friends. I have special relationships with certain ones on my property here in NJ and down in Florida, home to the Banyan Trees. - exotic and remarkable structures. I can’t imagine my life without plenty of trees.

Yep! I think perhaps that the single reason I can't live in the desert is because the trees here can't be climbed. They are cacti. They will destroy you if you touch them. I like to be where I can climb the trees, swing around in them, sit and snooze underneath them, etc.

Another unbelievable statistic about the loss of our Nature. Trees are beautiful, protective, energy reductive, wildlife shelters! How many more malls and parking lots do we need?

Well, with Amazon and so much on line shopping, malls may well become as endangered as some species! And no huge loss!

Hi Karen.... I agree Amazon is changing our whole shopping culture but I disagree and think it 'is' a huge loss to lose the malls and brick and mortar stores. Jobs and livelihoods are going to be affected with Amazon's success. Here's the rub, Amazon is so damn good that I use it on a regular basis. The convenience has made me less likely to go to stores, shop, interact, walk around, (slow down) and just enjoy a simple task like buying a pair of sneakers. I hope I am wrong but I believe you may be correct and we, as a society could lose Malls and shopping areas.

BTW.... It's interesting, when Malls started showing up it negatively affected many small downtown areas, now with Amazon's success the Malls are being shuttered. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out. Ciao, J.

Ya think you have a connection to trees? Read 'The Overstory' by Richard Powers.
