Agree with this article 100%. Parents need to back off and stop putting their kids as the center of their universe. It’s SO stifling to all involved. I can’t believe how many times I have asked a person how they were doing and they spent the next insufferable minutes telling me the minutiae of their kids lives. It blows my mind! Needless to say, they are acquaintances, not friends!
This is interesting in light of the recent admissions scandal. We never had “helicopter” parents growing up and my two brothers and I went on to become doctors on our own. My parents had no idea what the hell I was doing on a day to day basis. As long as you had good grades, you were left alone. I can’t imagine being hovered constantly.
