I have not taken the necessary steps towards planning my own funeral. I don’t like the traditional wake and funeral - way too costly and stiff - pardon the pun! That said, I went to the BEST Celebration of Life ceremony at an old church in Maplewood NJ that was incredibly meaningful and profound. It was officiated by a young minister, with a nose piercing, who spoke authentically of love and the sacredness of life. Everyone got to speak, sing and celebrate this unique, beautiful, amazing young woman who passed away. It was inspirational, uplifting and I left feeling like a got to know the deceased and her family in a much broader, deeper way. I felt like “more” for having shared in this celebration. That’s what I would like, as it was a gift to those attending. Now I just have to put it in writing!

I love this natural burial service orchestrated by family and friends. I must check on the laws in N.J. to see if this is possible.

Love the idea of a natural burial. I think it’s great to have the family care for the body if everyone’s on board.
