I loved taking this reflective journey with Jack Thomas. What an interesting life. To have such peace knowing you have had a full, exciting and meaningful life that you enjoyed and were present to - well, that’s amazing. It’s also wonderful to have a wife and children who you know will help in the transition - he will not be alone. This makes me think of all those who had to die alone during Covid. That would be the worst. The nurses and doctors who provided the transitional comfort for these individuals under such duress are exceptional human beings. Death is the ultimate transition and to have a really supportive, graceful, loving exit a gift beyond measure. We treat death like it’s a failure, something to be ashamed of, something to put in a dark room and tip toe around, fearful we might “catch it.” We are all going to die and it should help us to decide how we are going to live.

Amen! My mind is blown by how much your comment makes me think of the short story 'mono no aware' I linked in my post.

A beautiful recollection. I detect a sense of acceptance, or 'mono no aware', as is still fresh from last night's read.

Here's a playlist with the music mentioned by Jack: To Jack Thomas' Life ⛵️.

You're welcome! I'm on track 5 of 13 now, waiting for the turnover from classical to jazz & more. Always fascinated by the favorite music of others!

      Heavy, but also enjoyable.
