Why can’t you not follow along? I’m not a “user “ of these platforms but I am consistently made aware of the various effects both positive and negative that they illicit in people and culture all over the world. This is why I can’t not follow along. Hope you’re able to understand why you can’t not feeling ugggggghhhh

haha, my slaughter of good English for fun bites me in the buns... it's that "watching a trainwreck" thing. I spent the early parts of my career as a high-level social media marketer. I left that world when I couldn't sit with the impact it was creating, but I still get roped into working on or with these platforms sometimes because of my work as a digital marketer. I don't use social either personally, just where I have to for work.

I feel like I'm watching and secretly hoping someone or something finally drops the hammer on them (or that they implode) and that this forces my entire industry to scramble to find something to replace their dependence on the likes & shares.

I'm so curious where this is going to go, probably why I can't not watch (so many double negatives lol) but feel very icky about what's happening...especially when many major thinkers, players, thought leaders etc are constantly sharing how they have to forcefully unplug.

Like that piece where the guy had his assistant change his social passwords every Monday and he only got them back on Friday. I mean, COME ON! It's like locking your booze in the cupboard so you can't touch it before happy hour. I'm just lurking in the corner waiting for everyone to wake up to the madness.

Thanks for your clarification about what you know about yourself, it’s always refreshing to hear a person’s true story. I’ve been trying to think more roundly about this subject recently because my fiancé has started her social media “experiment “ and is experiencing positive and negative effects. I’m starting to come to see the advantages of participating but not at all convinced that any of the main alternatives are healthy for me. I’ve also thought whole generations growing up with this influence must have caused some fundamental shifts in the way we humans interact with each other. I’m sure there are many different creative ways of relating together in a digital world. Thinkhappythoughts.

Yeah... wow... and this is just about one particular case of jealousy. I’ll have to dig up an article that I read a while ago which argued that almost everything that happens with big tech companies is motivated out of jealousy or some type of personal feud.
