Commitment to complete an article isn’t that difficult when you are not distracted, but sometimes it happens. Have you guys ever considered adding a reminder notification for articles that appear in the My Reads folder that are yet to be completed? Thanks again for all the hard work and positive direction you are willing to put towards storytelling. Since publishing took over from an oral tradition there really hasn’t been any challenge to the monopoly..........Until Now!!!

Have you guys ever considered adding a reminder notification for articles that appear in the My Reads folder that are yet to be completed?
That's a great idea! Almost half of my starred articles are half-read, so people would need to be in control of those notification. The articles themselves are definitely "badged" with the visible bookmark, but you want to be able to set yourself a date/time reminder? We always want to avoid activating robo-communications whenever possible.
Sounds like a solution for people who have distractions like children that rarely get more than a few moments to focus. I also find that there’s always something that I instantly feel drawn to read as soon as I open the app and find myself sometimes missing the entire point/focus of Readup. I’m hoping that my completion percentage hasn’t changed since I started, because I get a genuine feeling of satisfaction every time I finish an article whether I post, rate or comment.

Me too! It's like how at my old yoga studio they used to ring a bell at the end of class. Like: "Good work!"

I interpret that as a good thing, right? Jeff and I often talk about how we're just trying to get Readup to disappear. When it's happening Reader is in it. They shouldn't be thinking about Readup at all. (Right?)
That’s right, when I’m reading a hardcover I’m not thinking about what publisher and printing press was used to get the Reader Writer conjunction to occur.

Article completion is the key metric that all Writers & Readers are looking for. There has not been an effective solution, or accountability mechanism until Readup when it comes to reading digitally.

Regardless, there will never be a single solution to article “curation” or “discovery” online. And there shouldn’t be.
I used to think of Pocket as a competitor, but now I don’t.
You can even see Pocket as a dependency. Readup depends on Readers acting as scouts. Many scouts will consume primary sources (e.g. magazine sites), but many will also consume secondary, already-curated sources (Pocket, Reddit, review newsletters, ...). Readup isn't necessarily competing with curators. Readup is a meta-curator.

I’ll admit that at first I was a little perturbed that the Best of Pocket list had so much overlap with the Readup AOTD list. But now I’m stoked about it.
Another reason to be stoked: Pocket highlights 24 high quality reads at the end of the year. Readup has those, but also 341 more of them. One every day, throughout the whole year. You don't need to wait till the end of the year to find good reads on Readup.

After all, Pocket has millions of users and Readup has only a few thousand Readers, so any overlap just proves the strength of our data model. One real Reader is worth a thousand skimmers.
