When I’m reading your adventures I feel as if I’m watching a film! It’s all in the details and there was an “extravaganza” of them here! Laughed out loud! Really enjoyed this Bill - you are on such a (literal) roll!
Yes, I would like to add to my original comment. What makes this piece so compelling for me is that it’s layered - just like life. Within the hilarity of discovering the 80% discount at Shopko, is the haunting reality of greed, lost employment and a very young man facing his decision to join the military. I connected to him so much because a place where my husband and I dine frequently and know the staff on personal levels, is a young man knowing that after his summer at this restaurant, he, too, is going in the military. He doesn’t want to go his mother told me. She is very conflicted about making him go. But she’s also worried he has no discipline, drive, ambition or direction. I’m wondering if, in the end, they will make him go.
This is so sad, and I'm sure it happens all the time.
But I guess it's only sad if you make it / think it's sad. This guy seems to be taking it in stride.

Great little travelogue! Nice people. Too bad a bunch of slicksters screwed over thousands of jobs in that corporation!!
