This topic is super interesting but he article doesn’t explain well enough that Oracle/Walmart don’t actually own TikTok. They literally just took a 20% stake and agreed to host US data within the US. That’s all. Nothing else changes.
What really is concerning is the excise about the suicide video. That was originally streamed on Facebook. Facebook immediately removed it and stopped it from being shared further. It made its way into TikTok where it continued to spread.

Over all I think tikTok can be a good thing. There are millions of chinese kids (including discriminated minorities) that see videos every day of kids in the US and Canada and the life they lead. It only takes so long of seeing the disparity between the two before they start demanding more. Think of all the videos of kids protesting - without fear of being forever banned from 'good society'.
Interesting perspective. I never thought of it from the view of a Chinese kid on there (I actually think I read they are on a different version though?! Maybe with separate content too? I’d doubt the PRC would allow American content on the Chinese version. Nevertheless an interesting thought experiment
