Great find! Thanks for scouting :)

I especially resonated with "our ability to manage our own attention is more relevant than ever"

I'm making time to replace habits with new systems, may write a post about it...

Human psychology in the modern era. Technology is more relevant than ever, yet also has the capacity to be destructive to our humanity like this article suggests.

Please do! It's my favorite thing to read writings by Readup readers. (In fact, Jay, the author of this article, is on Readup!)

An optimistic & broad view on change. Nice.

I like the notion of a "new normal", and that year 2020 AD is now year 0 AC (after coronavirus, as mentioned in the podcast the author links)

      Agree with the insights here.

A great article. Most of my hobbies are at-home in nature, so I'm loving the extra time I have for them. I find I'm buying more online as well. I'm thinking of buying a new mattress and box spring online, something I'd have never considered before. Even for a homebody such as myself, things have changed.

Stellar, this is a perfect manifesto for getting the most out of what we're in. The best thing anyone can be right now is agile and adaptable. Make the best of what we're served, it's not like there's an option "b" at the mo.

Certainly not liking this quarantine but not hating it either. It might be hard to get back to biz as usual.

Wow. Very enlightening. I have had many of the same thoughts but not so eloquently expressed. I, too, look at this scary unprecedented time as a healing time for the earth and its inhabitants. I really enjoyed many of the writers suggestions of how to spend our time wisely, kindly and creatively. I am of the generation where the phone was connected to the wall so the technology that burst on the scene 20 or so years ago still gets me frustrated but I find myself reaching out to people in my “contacts” that I haven’t spoken to or heard from in awhile. We need to reach out, stay connected and be grateful for what we do have rather than worry about what we lost or don’t have.

Wow wow wow!! This is an absolute gem of an article!! I agree 100% with every single sentence in this piece. Thank you so much, Bill, for scouting this.

It’s hard to choose but this would be one of the fav quotes:

We’re realizing that global crises are real and they can affect all of us. We’re testing new waters of global cooperation.

I love your words - global cooperation - yes! That would be a wonderful silver lining.

Let’s just hope this lasts beyond the pandemic (assuming this actually does end at some point 😬) and spans across all scientific fields not just the medical area.

YESSSSSS!!!!! This is such a vital and inspiring article to read, and perhaps even reread, during this challenging and upending crisis. I could feel my entire body relax, my heart open, my breathing deepen with each word. There are so many wonderful, creative suggestions on how to respond to this time of quarantine. I love Chaban’s analogy of earth “catching us misbehaving and sending us all to our rooms - we are grounded”. I could not agree more that we, indeed, have a front row seat to our fragility. And that is a good thing - I feel we need to be humbled, to be awakened, to change. I also love the idea that ones home can become their monastery - “structuring their time and space to support the person you want to become”. And lastly, this incredible insight “ that as we struggle with respiratory illnesses, the earth is breathing better than it has in a long time”. Thank you Bill, Jeff and Readup, for this quality of writing, this community, is certainly a stronghold- grounding me, opening me, uplifting me. Beautiful.

It doesn't get any more relevant than this. Yes, I need an information diet. I have always had a home office, so not a huge adjustment for me, AND yet, I find myself more immersed than ever in the 24x7 corona-palooza streaming news. I have never spent more time on social media. It's exhausting. When I walk away from my office the thing I want to do is go lie down. I didn't step foot outside yesterday until 6pm. So, yes, I need to take a chill pill on the news and information, and I need to figure out a way to find some peace.

It is interesting how a lot of people, especially those not accustomed to so much use of technology, finding it exhausting! I am retired but part of a Reiki community and we have been doing a lot via Zoom. And then even all the Facetiming with my family, talking more to relatives and friends on the phone etc...I find I HAVE to get outside to my garden and dig in the dirt, work out in my studio, or create something. Anything to disconnect. Especially from too much news - that is another type of disaster! Good luck!

Yes, I think more should be said about this being a shift in humanity. I know it sounds woo-woo (full disclosure I love Maryann Williamson) but there is so much healing that needs to be done. I love the fact the planet is exhaling and enjoying relief from humanity rushing all over the place and leaving a mess. Love this news.

      • Florian3 years ago

Yes, I completely agree. Even the most conservative people on this planet would have to admit that all the remote work, virtual meetings and all the sacrifices of travel and going out for fancy food is a massive shift
