Yup. I’ve been thinking about this a lot too.

I think SEnkey says it well: "Everything is simple when you don't know anything about it."

It’s time to build. It’s also time to forget everything we thought we knew and start from scratch. Everything is broken, but that just makes it a very interesting time to be a builder.

But of course it is not as simple as we would like. Take education, hiring tutors is not an easy answer. Why? Because who will pay for the tutors? Who will be in charge of choosing the tutors? I was a principle of a Title I school for several years. We got money to do just that, but the new hires had to be approved by the vested interest. And they had to devote time to compliance documentation and state sanctioned grade appropriate curriculum - even when very few of the kids were on grade level. Everything is simple when you don't know anything about it. I think things in general are getting better and better, despite this pandemic anomaly.

One for the zettelkasten, simply for the timeless reminder it carries:

Every intellectual who starts out planning to build eventually gets bogged down by the meta (what, at the low-level manifests as 'politics' and at the high level as 'strategy').

I'll return to this over and over.

When the producers of HBO’s “Westworld” wanted to portray the American city of the future, they didn’t film in Seattle or Los Angeles or Austin — they went to Singapore. We should have gleaming skyscrapers and spectacular living environments in all our best cities at levels way beyond what we have now; where are they?
