Wow, I really had to focus and pay attention every second of this article. Excellent explication of where we are today with liberalism and how we got here! The author points out that liberalism is slower and requires compromise—which seems to be a dirty word in our politics today. Great read!!
That is definitely something that stood out in the article. When everyone took shared morals for granted we could move on to individual pursuits. But some of those individual pursuits have underlined important morals around group cohesion and welfare, belonging, and committing to causes bigger than ourselves ie thinking generationally. My fear is that we are taking liberalism for granted and the actions we are collectively making will undermine the very things we want to accomplish.
