"Do what you Love" as long as you are not bored! Always gonna have deadlines, Work-life balance is a myth.

I used to buy into the "do what you love" concept, but it led to a complete burnout in the end.

Agreed. Work is almost never pure work. I loved teaching, but education isn't about education - we we're social workers, nurses, data analyst, developmental experts, counselors, interventionist, and on and on. I just wanted to teach. Since moving into other industries I've realized its the same all over. My programmers just want to code, but it isn't that simple. My friend loves running his own business making custom wood projects, except for the whole business side of it.

Then there is my high school buddy who hated working in his dad's garage growing up. One year into college he dropped college and went back to the garage. Now he runs it (it went from one small texaco with 2 bays to a 16 bay monster) and is doing really well for himself. I asked him last time I saw him if he likes it now. His response? "I still hate this shit, but it more than pays the bills."
