I love the way he expands the importance of paying attention to attention, as so much more than personal. That attention fuels power... and the appetite for our attention is rapacious. The insight that this "neglect of attention" is behind the radicalization of a lot of people is a really generative lens, too... I heard something about radicalization and the tools used to convert vulnerable targets - it's literally one-on-one grooming... it's giving attention to someone who craves it and doesn't get it. So valuable to hear attention explored with this bigger context.
52 hour work weeks? Part of the problem is capitalism, amirite? I remember reading some posts by Penelope Trunk around this topic - she's on the spectrum, so she's fascinatingly blunt about how to choose a mate that supports career and kids. https://blog.penelopetrunk.com/2013/01/07/how-to-pick-a-husband-if-you-want-to-have-kids/comment-page-2/
You are the most wonderful readers. Thank you for your attention... it's a precious thing, and much apppreciated.
Love the way that community grows out of just listening to each others raw unpolished stories. Imagine doing this very Monday for years… love it.
